The Rum Festival – Newcastle, 4th May 2019
The Rum Festival is officially the UK’s first travelling rum festival and this year it’s taking over Newcastle again after a very successful 2018. Founded on the back of the vision of the upcoming rum revolution, this event is the first of its kind and will be bringing their rum festivals to a host of other UK cities too, including Norwich, Glasgow, Kent and Edinburgh. As born and bread Northerners, we’ll be attending the Newcastle event, which has this year taken over a larger space at Northumbria Uni. In terms of the rum itself, you can expect to find over 100 types of rum to sample, from large brands to some of the smaller craft varieties. Confirmed partners include Dead Man’s Fingers, Mount Gay, Beach Craft Spirits and Cloven Hoof. Standard ticket prices start from as little as £10 for an early bird pass. Alternatively, if you’re looking to splash out, you can go VIP which gets you fast track entry, a Rum Festival Tote Bag, a complimentary rum punch and two rum and mixers of your choice. Founded by the World’s only Global Rum Ambassador, Ian Burrell, UK RumFest will showcase over 400 of the world’s finest rums when it opens its doors on Saturday 20th October. Although no set timetable has yet been released for 2019, you can expect a packed seminar schedule with tasting sessions and talks from some of the world’s finest rum distillers and connoisseurs. At £49.50 for a ticket, it’s a lot more expensive than ‘The Rum Festival’, however, this is what you can expect when attending the industry’s most prestigious event.
